Capital of a region renowned throughout the world, Lower-Normandy, at the heart of a district of 250,000 inhabitants, city of William the Conqueror, Caen lies only a few kilometers from the English Channel, a destination awaiting your discovery. Its geographical position, between land and sea, less than two hours from Paris and facing the South Coast of England, makes Caen a city ready to meet with these challenges. Both a commercial port and pleasure marina, it is a port of call ready for adventure and new projects.
With its exceptional historical heritage, Caen is the ideal place to enjoy a tourist or cultural break. William's Castle, the Men's Abbey and the Ladies' Abbey figure among the jewels of Norman architecture. The Memorial for Peace, the Normandy and Fine Arts Museums and the city theater all contribute to Caen's international reputation.
The Baylor University/Caen University (Caen, Lower Normandy) student and faculty exchange program is entering its tenth year of existence. It is an opportunity for Baylor students to spend a semester or year abroad studying either the French language or taking Business courses in English (or combining both pursuits), allowing students to live in one of the most culturally rich cities in France.
Courses or Areas of Study:
French and Business - Please note that you do not have to be fluent in French when you leave to attend this program, but all courses are taught in French. The university offers a French-intensive course for students upon their arrival if needed. You must have taken at least TWO semesters of French if you are planning to attend this program.
Students will live on-campus in a private room with a shared kitchen and bathroom. HOUSING IS INCLUDED IN THIS PROGRAM.
Students are responsible for applying directly to L'Universite de Caen as well as filling out the Baylor Study Abroad Application Packet.
For more information about applying to this university see HERE. Please also contact the program Director, Dr. Theresa Kennedy, for approval/nomination (an email link is provided at the top of this page).
Being that you pay your housing and tuition to Baylor, you should plan on spending money only on your airfare and then extra living expenses while at Caen. The university recommends a spending budget of around 200 EUROS for meals and transportation.
Each student is responsible for his or her own transportation, including airfare. You can fly into Paris through either Charles de Gaulle International Airport or Orly International Airport. Upon arrival at the airport, you are to take a train to get to the university. More information on how to get to the university from the airport will be provided upon your acceptance to the university.
A passport and student visa are required. The university will provide student visa forms upon your acceptance to the university.
