Coimbra and the University of Coimbra are two interrelated realities. The epithet of "City of Students" is not new, but the connection between one of the national institutions with a longer tradition and the city of the river Mondego lives on.
The city and the surrounding region offer exceptional conditions for countless leisure activities, which range from the practice of several sports to numerous suggestions at cultural and artistic levels and to events in unique historical sceneries, just to mention some possibilities among many others.

Students attending the University of Coimbra will be provided temporary accommodation for up to a month. Students are responsible for finding off-campus accommodations, though. Students are first required to be nominated to attend a MAUI-Utrecht program. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an interview to be nominated for the program. More information regarding the application process will be given at the interview.

Please note that students who do not have a sufficient proficiency of Portuguese can take a free intensive language course during the month of September. You must be studying abroad for the fall semester in order to take this course.
Temporary accommodation through the university costs 100 EUROS per month with a 50 EURO deposit. Expect to spend around 200 EURO for private accommodations with a single room. Expect to spend around 150 EURO for private accommodations with a double room (with a roommate). Meals costs between 1.90 EURO and 4.50 EURO through the university. Expect to spend around 90 EURO a month on books. Local transportation costs 6 EURO for eleven tickets.
Each student is responsible for their own transportation, including airfare.
A passport and visa are required. You will need to apply for a visa through the nearest Portuguese consulate when you receive your acceptance letter from the University of Coimbra (the closest one to Waco is in Houston).
